Sunday 6th August
Trinity 9 – Suffering
8am
Holy Communion led by Rev Gav
First Reading: Psalm 103: 8-14
The Lord is merciful and gracious,
slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love.
He will not always accuse,
nor will he keep his anger forever.
He does not deal with us according to our sins
nor repay us according to our iniquities.
For as the heavens are high above the earth,
so great is his steadfast love toward those who fear him;
as far as the east is from the west,
so far he removes our transgressions from us.
As a father has compassion for his children,
so the Lord has compassion for those who fear him.
For he knows how we were made;
he remembers that we are dust.
Gospel Reading: Luke 13:1-5
At that very time there were some present who told Jesus about the Galileans whose blood Pilate had mingled with their sacrifices. He asked them, “Do you think that because these Galileans suffered in this way they were worse sinners than all other Galileans? No, I tell you, but unless you repent you will all perish as they did. Or those eighteen who were killed when the tower of Siloam fell on them—do you think that they were worse offenders than all the other people living in Jerusalem? No, I tell you, but unless you repent you will all perish just as they did.”

Bible Reading: Luke 13:1-5
Read by Val
The first Bible reading is from the International Children’s Bible, Luke 13:1-5
At that time some people were there with Jesus.
They told him about what had happened to some people from Galilee.
Pilate killed those people while they were worshiping.
He mixed their blood with the blood of the animals they were sacrificing to God.
Jesus answered,
“Do you think this happened to them
because they were more sinful than all others from Galilee?
No, they were not!
But if all of you don’t change your hearts and lives,
then you will be destroyed as they were!
What about those 18 people who died
when the tower of Siloam fell on them?
Do you think they were more sinful
than all the others who live in Jerusalem?
They were not!
But I tell you, if you don’t change your hearts and lives,
then you will all be destroyed too!”
This is the word of the Lord.
